My little sister who recently turned 12 came into my room this morning asking for help with planning her party. We came up with having a Love Boat/Cruise Ship party as my dad invested in a boat this year.

The boat isn't all too big but has beds for 4, a toilet, a little kitchen and a lounge/table area as well as upstairs for driving. The most space is probably at the very nose of the boat.

The ideas we have had so far:

* Giving them invitations that are tickets/passports that my dad (dressed up as a sea captain) will stamp or punch as they come aboard.

* For activities the girls (only girls invited) could each be taught how to make an origami sailors hat out of newspaper.

* As it is a cruise they will be drinking mocktails made by the barrister (me) out of fancy plastic glasses topped with a strawberry and an umbrella

* At some point we will stop off at a spot where the girls can chuck some floaties in the river and have a swim where we will have lunch served as well (as to what that lunch is I need ideas).

Otherwise I still need help with some games (either in the water or on the boat) the fact that we have limited space here could be a problem, just nothing involving running around.

I also need ideas for food (cruise/sea themed), ideas for dress up, if any, and decorations (we want to go really extravagant in decorating the boat.

I just got back from my first cruise last month, so I've got a few ideas fresh in my mind.
Towel Animals!  That's what carnival is know for.  I'm sure you could find some instructions online.  They could be used as decorations and/or you could choose a simple one and all the girls could make their own towel animal.

Decorating sunglasses: I'm not sure how much crafting you want to do with them, but what 12 year old wouldn't want to bling up some cheap sunglasses? Then they could wear them throughout their "cruise."

There are a lot of cheesey games on cruises.  Bingo was one of them.  You can easily find the supplies for a good bingo game at stores like Wal-mart.  Maybe a birthday girl trivia quiz. They could play red light green light in the water.

As for food, there was just lots of it.  Whatever your sister likes best would be just right.  Burgers/hotdogs, yummy dessert(s).

Sounds fun and what a nice sister helping out.

I saw some instructions for towel animals online. shall search them out and link you to them.
here's a page on towel animals.

I recall seeing some instructions put out by Carnival [almost wrote Cunard *headdesk*. hehe.] and downloaded the PDF files but those files have been moved to the external hard drive and I'm lazy to look for them at the moment. but I will. =D

Nice of you as a big sister to plan your younger sister's party. lol. I got a cruise for my 21st, just got back from it last month actually.

Wow I have never heard of towel animals before, they look hilarious! I think I will have to give it a go.
I love all your ideas I will definitely include them - I especially fancy the sunnies idea.

Oh but what is red light green light?
I am from Australia so it might be called something different...

Red light green light is based on the light signal.  Someone who is... it/the light stands or swims in this case away from the rest of the group.  They turn their back to the group and yell green light.  The group walks/swims towards the person who is it quickly until that person turns around and says red light.  Everyone has to freeze.  Those that don't, get sent back to the starting line.  This continues until someone reaches the person who is it and then they become the new it.  The person who is it can turn around and change colors very quickly, trying to be tricky.

Ever heard of it in Australia?

Sounds exactly the same as 'what's the time Mr. Wolf?' not that we have wolves, perhaps we should change it to dingo. Then the dingo got to eat the babies.
