Okay so this is going to be long post, scroll to the photos if stories bore you Smiley

I had this very awesome owl sweater.  It was the greatest sweater I have ever owned and I got a compliment on it every time I wore it (see it here: http://flickr.com/photos/athenamat/359827520/).  When I was at my parents' house, I washed it and it totally funked out (even though I'd washed it dozens of times at a laundrymat).  I was very sad but I decided to cut out the cool tag and the buttons and play taps when I threw it away.

At the same time, I was drooling over this coat on craftster:

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=211957.0

When I went with my mom to our local Walmart, I had to pick up the same pattern and buy some cheapo fabric at Walmart.  At first I didn't love this green fabric but it turned out great.  The lining doesn't match perfectly, but I wanted to go cheap because I already made a coat last year and this was just a fluke project considering I had ten million other things to craft while I was at home.

I made the coat but was missing something .... it was missing a sweet owl patch.  After testing the placement all over the coat, we decided it looked best on the sleeve.  So the poor owl sweater still lives with in this coat.

Without further ado, the photos!  It looks a little funky in the first photo because I have silly posture in photos but you can still sense the prettiness.

I made the polka dot dress too.

And after I made the dress I was browsing Urban Outfitter's coats and look what I found!

$125?  Shaw.  I whipped it up for around $25 in all.  I so want to make another of these and maybe modify the pattern to make a shirt too.

Thanks Smiley

Mine is actually light enough to be called a jacket which is sweet because I'll wear it into spring.

Its really not that hard to make either.  I made a different coat last year and it was much harder.

A little tip: if you use flannel, for SURE pre-wash, but in addition, buy a little extra because it'll shrink a lot and then it will take you a long time to cut out because you have to be very creative about fitting all the pieces.

I am glad to see more coats being made! What a nice detail your little owl makes--I also like your button choice!

Can't wait to see if you make more--what?  You can make 5 of them for the price of the readymade one? wow!
