You're very very welcome.  I only wish I had thought about sharing links here earlier.  I've spent about 7 hours today going from site to site.  I was snaggin' and taggin' my fingers to the bone    Sadly, I didn't bookmark the links.

If you did a search here for a topic..something like "where did you get all those images", you'd find pages and pages of linkage.  I'm just too sore and lazy to do it, lol.

AND keep an eye on this thread.  I'm sure the rest of the gang will share again.

OH, and welcome to Craftsters!!  We hope you'll get comfortable and play with us.

That paper sounds interesting...also it sounded similar to what I just read in artist's magazine Jonathan Talbot precoats materials and the background support with acrylic medium (gloss) and allows them to dry. Then after he lays out the collage like he wants he covers it with release paper (paper coated with silicone for non-stick surface) then irons it with a tacking iron. This fuses the acrylic coating of the back ground and the acrylic coated images  together...

I have not tried yet. But it sounds like the same principle

The Library of Congress has started a Flickr pool of images that are totally copyright-free!

According to http://www.loc.gov/blog/?p=233, "The project is beginning somewhat modestly, but we hope to learn a lot from it. Out of some 14 million prints, photographs and other visual materials at the Library of Congress, more than 3,000 photos from two of our most popular collections are being made available on our new Flickr page, to include only images for which no copyright restrictions are known to exist."

Many government sites are good sources of copyright-free photos, including NASA, NOAA, the Department of Agriculture, the military branches, etc. While you cannot assume that anything you find on a government site is OK to use, look for official photo libraries and read their terms of use, and you will often find that there is no copyright restriction.
