There's a place in Waterbury called Jay-Mar (I think?) that's got some nice beads and stuff.  We had a great indie craft store in Brookfield for years (The Craft Basket) but they just closed last month.  Sigh.

Yeah.  Popular rumor around here is that the owners are getting divorced and couldn't settle amicably.  Don't know if that's true, but I can't imagine they went out for lack of business - they had a lot of customers that wouldn't go near Michaels/Joann's/Rag Shop.  I miss them already!

Erin, there's the lucky strike rock shop in Plainville (Saturday trip if its now snowing?)
http://www.luckystrikerockshop.biz/

and beadworks in Norwalk.

We need to go to Vermont and search the hardcore bead shops.

there's
the rock garden in Branford
the hammered edge in Chester
Those are two places I've actually been to!

There is also this directory which lists a ton of different bead shops in CT.

Kelly, have you (or anyone else) ever been to Lucky Strike Rock/Bead Garden in Plainville? MsBettie and I went on Saturday, and we were really dissapointed. First of all, the women were watching us like hawks, and also they were a bit pricey.  Plus not that big or nice of a selection.  I'm really hoping that no one here is the owner and I just completly bashed their life's dream.

This is a drive for you, but I live in Newtown, and we have this place, Chints 'N Prints.    It's an independent fabric and sewing store, and while its old and dingy, I've found some awesome stuff there.

Hey AlexandraK We're practically neighbors!  I live in Southbury, but just moved from Newtown over the summer.  There's a crafty group that meets alternately in Newtown and Bethel - PM me if you want more info or to chat about life in Newtown!

You should go to Trash American Style in Danbury. I just bought the best buddha beads, and some bone carved skulls. Plus Malcom ( the most awesome owner) told me that his associate was at Americas largest beading convention, buying more for the store. Its not a bead store specifically, but it is the best store ever. My fiance and I take the hour drive once a month.

P.S. the Newtown teen center also rocks. I went to the best Halloween show thier.

Where in Danbury is Trash American Style?  I think I saw a newspaper article when they first opened, but don't recall where they are.

These are the beads I got at Trash. I'm planning on making Frida Kahlo inspired earrings with the hands (Picasso have her a gift of hand shaped earrings).
And by the way, the picture behind my hand is a Tammy Faye Baker album that I also purchased at Trash.

There's a small bead shop called the Beadoir in West Hartford Center. Its kind of expensive though.
