Two Simple Knit Scarves
«
on:
January 09, 2008 11:51:46 AM »
I like this scarf more now than when I finished it a couple of months ago. I knit cords forever it seemed. It's quite bulky and warm.
I like to mix the fuzzy yarns with worsted weight. The fuzzy yarn is called "Baby Monkey" and it's so soft. It is 100% synthetic. It's also easy to carry the worsted weight yarn up the side because it gets lost in the fuzzy yarn so there are less ends to weave in.
Thanks for looking.

Wow. Thank you! I certainly didn't expect this kind of response for that scarf.
I'm sorry I don't want to put a picture of myself up. The cords are however at one end and about in the middle of the scarf so they kind of fall around when the scarf is worn. It's rather long. It came out way bigger than I had imagined. Thanks again.

Thanks again!
I have read one should always save the yarn wrapping. But I didn't! I bought most of the yarn at Micheals. It's a soft something. But not simply soft. I also put in some colors of other worsted weight yarns I had.
I-cords are easy. Here is a link from KnittingHelp.com:
http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-tips
Roll down the page.
On this scarf, I started the cords by using the tail from the yarn change. (not all the tails are used. Some need to be woven in) So leave a long tail. (The tails will get all bunched up so I rolled them and tied them into a ball until I knit the cords.)
I used a crochet hook to "pick up" two stitches though the existing work (then transfer the loops to the double point needles) I then added on one stitch and then knit the cords using the 3 stitches on double point needles.
KnittingHelp.com also has a video on how to pick up stitches.
I hope that helps. I'm not very good at explaining stuff. I used the technique from the book Scarf Style to change the colors.

I'm not a knitter, but seeing your scarf is just one more reason why I want to learn. Your color choices are lovely, and the first scarf is very cool looking. The second I like, too, though I'm not a huge fan of furry things. Great job!
