I'm looking at my laptop now, trying to build up the guts to pick apart the keyboard. It seems simple enough... but also simple enough to mess up.

My Toshiba laptop's keys just snap right off and back on. Very simple. I was always afraid to take them off (for cleaning) until one day my daughter pulled some off. When you start pulling them you feel like they are going to break, but they don't. And they go back on very easy. Of course I can only promise this on my particular laptop. Easier than a regular keyboard, actually.

Yeah, I'd be careful, my old, crummy laptop's keys would randomly pop off and it was a huge hassle to get them back in.  It had 2 tiny plastic pieces (per key) that had to be aligned just so to get it to snap back.  And they were so tiny that you had to be super careful not to lose them.
