These aren't the fun to laugh at seventies patterns (which I have whole books full of... they're a riot Cheesy).  These are the museum pieces of vintage patterns.  And there are a whole lot of them.

I want to make the knit mesh stockings.  And this site below has instructions for crocheted garters from 1895... so my knit stockings won't fall down, of course.

Anyone else know of any sites with free antique patterns of any kind that they are willing to share?

This site has a great collection of mostly Edwardian and some Victorian patterns, straight from the books they were printed in. Even better, it's got links to many other Victorian patterns. The main website has patterns for other crafts as well.

I read recently that the Lion Brand company is republishing their 1916 Manual of Worsted Work (I had no idea they'd be around that long, but apparently they've been around since the 1870's).  I can't wait to order it because I, too, love antique patterns!  Anyway, they have a free pattern on the website for a 1912 coat and tam:

Here is the link to the book:

this lady sells pdf copies of vintage books ... and she's kind enough to give free downloads when you sign in for some knid of a newsletter thing (scroll down for yellowish box) Pattern books are from around 1950's...

for knitting here http://www.vintage-knitting-patterns.com/index.html (you'll get access to a booklet of scarves/shawls and a shrug; plus a booklet on hats, some really cool )
for crochet herehttp://www.vintage-crochet-patterns.com/index.html (doilies, some pretty afghans, and more house stuff)

Update: did you see the "Peterson's magazines from 1866" post ? There are links to a scan of some real cool antique patterns, knit, crochet and sewing if I remember correctly.
