kayak girl and I have been talking about making our own dressforms (based on threadbanger easy podcast tutorial )for a while and we finally got around to doing mine.

It's amazingly simple and everyone should really make one. Just start by putting on an old shirt (It has to be really long or just use a piece of fabric to extend it) and have your friend wrap you in duct tape

Wrap around your torso but when you get to the chest area, start going up and down.
Excuse my weirdness...

Do a couple layers...

Cut it off you (avoid your actual shirt or you next project will be patching) Cheesy

tape the back up

and if you stuff it you're done.

But I went to my local thrift store and got a lamp base to stick it on during stuffing. So here it is:

and posing with my hoodie and scarf...

I love it! and it's so useful!

Please comment!

Oh that looks easy! I'm so going to make one Smiley Thanks. I wonder, do you think if I wear a turttleneck that I would be able to give it a bit more of a neck (although the thought of wraping duct tape around my neck really sounds a bit creepy but hey lol)

Ooh it looks so awesome!  How much (or how many rolls) of duct tape did it take?... I've wanted to make one of these for a while.

what do you stuff it with?

i keep seeing different versions of make-your-own-dressform, and yours definitely tops the list.

That's great. We want to make 2 of these.  How did you mount it on the lamp stand?? That's the part I am not sure about.

I used less than two rolls of duct tape but, i probably should have done more layers to get it really thick.

Turtle neck shirts sound like a great idea, just be sure not to choke yourself. I wouldn't do the whole neck just a little bt of it. And I would do it last so you could cut yourself out right away.

I stuffed it with mostly newspaper and a little bubblewrap I had laying around.

I put the shell of the dressform on the lamp pole and stuffed around it and then taped it up.

Hope this was helpful, Thanks for everyone's nice comments!
