Hey everyone,

Here are some pictures of the pi topper hat that I've been meaning to share with you.

Pattern: Pi Topper Chemo Hat
Yarn: Patons Astra in Dark Denim
Needles: US 7 dpn's and 16'' circular

Easy top down construction, and a well written pattern.
I think my hat turned out a little slouchy, more so than other versions I've seen on Ravelry, but I like slouchy hats so I guess this turned out in my favor after all.

Thanks for looking!

Holy cats. I had to join craftster just to say how much I love this hat. I'm going to go see the pattern, but let's say I'm a totally novice knitter, will it be hard to figure out? I want this hat right now!!!!

ok firsts things first, thank you all for the nice kind comments, your all too nice!

maaaddhatterr- you could be completely right about the yarn. i think the original pattern called for Elann Esprit (solid)/dk/sport weight and is a cotton blend which is probably a different texture from my yarn. the only yarn that was sport weight at Michaels was the patons astra and bernat sport satin. i didn't have much of a choice so i had to settle for some acrylic. but i don't find it that bad, it's soft and it wears well so its not a problem.

fatgail - i had a little bit of an issue with the knitted on band portion of the pattern. i mean i did figure it out eventually but it was a little sketchy at first. so if you are patient and you've knitted a few things, i think you could totally figure it out and when you do figure it out you must share it with us all!

thanks again for all the positive feedback, i must be doing something right! lol.

Super job on the hat. It looks GREAT. Did you use size 7 needles and did your gauge match the pattern gauge? I would love to duplicate the look of yours and yours is a lot more slouchy looking then the original elann pattern. I have a feeling this will take fudging with the materials to get the look but I'm up to it.
(Okay, silly me, I actually sat down and read the pattern and the answer to the sloucher look was right there! After the final increase around it said to knit as many rounds as desired so this would individualize each hat considerably.)
A big thank you for directing us to this pattern. My granddaughter will LOVE this hat and daughters and so on and so on and so on!

I didn't check my gauge as the pattern suggested gauge wasn't important, perhaps this is why my hat turned out slouchier than the rest. After the final increase I knitted 29 rows like the pattern. Oh yeah, yes I used size 7 US needles.

thanks again for all the positive feedback!

I must be the only one who doesn't understand the directions...

I get the parts wit the pi, you just keep knitting, but the knit on edge part is the one that I don't get.

After I finish knitting the top, and when it says to CO 13 stitches, how do i do that? do I use a new end to make a loop and just start casting on again? Is the hat band knitted separately from the top of the hat? I think if i can just wrap my head around how to cast on again in the middle of the work, i'll be ok.

Hm... maybe i just do a knitted cast on... with the same yarn that's left dangling... as in i take the needle from the right and just turn it to the left side, and then knit cast on 13 stitches, and then turn and then knit... does that sound right?
