piece from my gemsetting course. Sterling silver, pearls, CZ's, and rubber. The stones on the urchin are overlay-set, with the points facing up. the stone on the clasp is gypsy-set, which is officially my new favourite technique, ever. also, the urchin screws off the plate on the front and has a secondary hidden bail, so he can be worn seperatley.

This SO ROCKS! I would love to see more like this, it's gorgeous.

I love the color mixture, the medium mixture, I love how it shines in some parts and not in others.

short of a very long-winded series of steps I can only say carefully. Wink I'm glad you like it so much!

The hammer texture on the urchin was a happy accident. I accidentally put my seating burr clean through on one of the holes and had to hammer it to close it up enough for a re-try. it was easier to texture the whole thing than to try and clean it up. I hate sanding.

You are really doing fantastic work!
I feel your sanding pain, but then, To err is human; to hammer, divine!

I have a problem with my chasing hammer; I use it on everything. I've hammer-set opals in 14g work-hardened sterling.

if at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer. Wink

That is absolutely amazing! A lot of people say that the distinction between art and craft is that art is purely for admiration, while craft is something with a function, something usable. This is one of those items that blurs the lines, something that negates that theory.
