This starts with my coffee obsession. I've been drinking it since I was 8. I know horrible, right. Let me add that I NEVER have been a morning person. Anyway, I decided for my house I wanted a Cafe look in the kitchen. So here's the start.
The tray image is actually 3-D. I used craft foam to layer the mug, steam, and coffee itself. I drew the image then traced on different cardstock. Now the background you'll love. 1 small piece of cardstock and the rest is used coffee filters. I started stock piling them for projects, really don't know why. Roll Eyes
2nd is a image I pulled of the net and placed on foam with the filter/cardstock mix in the background.

wow.  haha  you have inspired me lol, i have been keeping my used coffee filters for about 2 months now,  I generally use them for textures i make for photoshop, but for some reason it never phased me to use in a more "traditional" form of art.

btw these are awesome!

I love the idea of using a "waste" as art... how did you make them stay on there? Did you dry them and decoupage? They are so shiny...

This made me think of another use for coffee stuff-- I used some tea to dye a lampshade- but it wasnt dark enough-- maybe I can rub grounds on it?

And my last ramble- I am currently eating some oatmeal coffee crackers I bought at an Asian market-- coffee-- in a cracker!! They are a delight.

I dried them out first then decopaged them on. The shiny comes from 2 coats of polyurethane.
Mmmm coffee crackers....

Thanks.
I think I saw on HGTV or DIY an artist that uses used coffee filters to make beautiful kimono wall hangings.
