A friend of mine has an odd fascination with two-headed kittens and insists that she wants one. It's a bit of a running joke between us. I'm a little afraid that she'll come home with a taxidermy or one in formaldehyde, so I made her a felted version for her birthday.

I decided not to make him really realistic, more like a stuffed toy. I think he's a little cuter that way. He's about the length of my hand, and a little hard to photograph.

He's all curled up because he'll be in a jar when I give him to her (mostly for protection from her real cats). I think I need a better jar, though.

Comments and questions are welcome. Smiley

ETA:
I found a much better jar to house him, even if it's a little on the big side.

This is both bizarre and super awesome at the same time. I like the jar presentation, it really pumps up the wickedness factor! Too bad there isn't an easy way to get the look of 'liquid' in it..maybe saran wrap? Very cool!

And I thought I had seen everything... Very bizarre, I love it! Maybe you could paint the jar from the inside with yellowish brown so it would look like liquid?

What a weird fascination... although I must admit, before this, I was looking at parasitic and conjoined twins so I guess a lot of people are fascinated by "oddities"
If you wanted the liquid look, maybe you could go with that gel stuff people sometimes use to put in vases for fake flowers. I'm not sure what it's called but I think I saw some in Walmart's floral or vase aisle. The problems with that would be that your friend couldn't take it out of the jar to play with it, or it might mess up the felt. I don't know cuz I've never worked with gel or that felted stuff.
Good job !

i LOOOOOVE IT!!!  it is cute, it is creepy (creepy as ....), PUUURFECT combination! now you HAVE to change the jar.  the cat is way toooo special to go in that jar.  try to make it a lil more sci-fi-ish, a lil tared down, as if you had stolen it from a bizzarro museum.

Thanks so much! Cheesy  I think I'm going to try to make some clay "specimens" so that I can store them in liquid. I don't think I'll have time to experiment with fake liquids for this guy, but maybe when I make another (I definitely need one for myself).

Agreed, I absolutely need to look for a new jar. I have better ones, but they're all the wrong size. Maybe make a specimen label or tag for it too.

Absolutely. I love reading about medical curiosities, sideshow performers, etc. (I'm working on making a wearable parasitic twin for a costume.) It was a little surprising coming from Karla, just because she doesn't usually like stuff like that.

Update: I think he looks much better in his new home, which used to store my  zippers. I couldn't resist getting a bit silly and setting up a little "photo shoot".

The label is tea dyed. It reads "No.: 6709, Scientific name: Felis silvestris catus, Common name: House cat, Locality:(left blank), Notes: Diprosopus" (means craniofacial duplication).
Here's a link to the label, in case anyone might find it useful. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b162/krissy-kat/specimenlabels-1.jpg

When I was a little kid my uncle gave me a 'baby alien' in a jar filled with liquid. Well, that baby alien glowed in the dark and gave an aura into the liquid. I had so many nightmares I finally gave it to my parents (no clue what they did with it). This terrifies me because it reminds me of that!!! Going past my fear (woah, that was repressed, completely forgot about it!), it looks like great construction! =)

If you wanted it to look like it was floating in .. what is that stuff like formaldahide or whatever? Anywho you could attach a piece of fishing line or clear thread from the kitty to the top of the lid. that way it has the appearance o floating without the liquid...

Just a thought.

I love this, so creepy and cute at the same time!

Wow, that's the coolest thing I have ever seen.  Grin Love the idea of presenting it in a jar. Maybe you could spray paint the lid of the jar another color? But yeah, as odd as it is, it's practically the perfect gift for your friend... Next to the real thing at least.  Very very cool! Big props!!!

If you love a one headed cat, then a two headed cat is twice is much fun but only one end in the litterbox, which is always a plus.

Thanks a lot, guys.Cheesy  I thought I was exaggerating a bit with the warning in the title, but I guess not. Glad I put it there.

The recipient loved it. She thought it was hilarious. She gave me a book about Circus Sideshows for Xmas. Can you see a theme developing?

Awesome. That's exactly what I was going for. Smiley  And you're sooo not the only one fascinated by medical "oddities". Just look at all the tv shows about conjoined twins and people with rare medical conditions. TLC is the new sideshow. Wink
