Hi all and happy new year!

My birthday is coming up this month, and since it's my golden birthday (meaning my age coincides with the date, in this case age 24 on the 24th) I wanted to do something special. I want the theme to be "groovy". I like a bunch of 60s bands, especially the Beatles and Monkees. Inspired by aliastriona_angerboda, I'm going to attempt this psychedelic cake:

I was amazed to find this wonderful lava lamp drink dispenser, but I don't know what drink to put in it to look kind of like colorful lava. (click pic to enlarge)

It has to be non-alcoholic. I'm not sure what it should be. Something fruity would be nice. Here is where I turn to my wonderful fellow Craftsters to the rescue. Surely you all are clever! Please help! Oh yeah, and what party favors could I give out, for both genders? Really any suggestions for the party would be most welcome. Thanks!

It seems like orange soda was used, so maybe you should try that?

That's SO cute!!! Happy upcoming birthday!

Okay, so lava lamps are usually two different colors. What if you put, say, Blue gatorade/kool-aid/other fruity drink and floated big fat from-the-plastic-tray ice cubes in it made from a corresponding color, like red or purple? That way, when they melt it wouldn't turn the drink brown or something, and bonus: it looks a bit like the floating wax in a lava lamp. Oh, and SUPER BONUS, cold drinks!

Ice cubes! Why didn't I think of that? You even considered the colors so it wouldn't turn yucky afterward! I'll try around before the party. I was thinking of maybe sherbert or sorbet to float in it too, like punch. Do you think that would work?

Definitely try out a few punch recipes!  Punch is so much more tasty than soda, but I've have some punch that turned out to be a dud, even though it sounded good.  It's wise to make test batches ahead of time.  Congratulations on your golden birthday, too!

That is exactly what I was thinking.  I would use peach soda with raspberry sherbet.  Mmmmm. . .

As for favors, I may have to think over that for a bit.
