Some friends of mine have a whole bunch of chickens of various kinds that they are quite fond of.  I saw a wall sculpture thingy kind of like this that was out of my budget, but couldn't get out of my head as a gift for these friends.  So, I decided to reinterpret the idea in craft felt.

The only things that aren't felt are the chicks' beaks, eyes, combs, the loose feathers and the dust kicked up by the pick up.  Those are hand embroidered with DMC embroidery floss, 2-3 strands, if I remember correctly.  All the felt is machine sewn.  It's in an inexpensive frame; I just used spray adhesive to attach the finished product to the glass that came with the frame, trimmed the edges and put the frame back together.

Thanks for looking!

I love it!  We have many chickens also, and that is just the type of thing we would have in our house lol.  Good work, it looks so clean and very detailed!

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

I'm addicted to DDR. I need a 12-step program.

That's a perfect idea for them, and you do such nicely detailed work. The felt shapes are so nice - I could never sketch a pattern for something like that. You're quite talented! And I actually laughed out loud when I saw the feathers (and the picture after I'd read the title). Cheesy Great job!

But we have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done. If only I had something that would throw flame on them."

Wow!  Thanks everyone!  Hopefully they will like it, too.  I don't know that I'd embroider on felt again... at least not w/o a stabilizer.  Eesh.

I don't understand the chicken love thing but agree this is adorable.

I absolutely hated the chickens on the farm as a child but have a dear friend who has chickens and loves them like her children --- to each his own.

pickup Smiley, chicks  Smiley  Grin Grin

love it, love it, love it

Are you going to put the title on it somewhere (at least on the back?).  I think it definitely adds to its wonderfulness.

I'm also a fan of the chicken (although the cute, non-messy kind - not the real, live kind Wink)

Here's my chicken project:

It's not that I don't want to swap, it's that I often don't have time.  But feel free to ask (especially if it's one that's not too time consuming).

Thanks you guys!

I'm not a huge fan of chickens myself, but I am a huge fan of these friends.

KarenLouiseM: I remember seeing your awesome chicken-feet chairs!  I was so envious that you had those feet, which I dont' think Ikea sells anymore.
