So we mods had a little secret santa going on and my secret partner was lovely ms. Kittykill.  Well, after doing some stalking I found out that she wanted a lap quilt (yay for wishlist swaps! They're a swap stalkers dream  Wink) and I knew from experience she loves all things Halloween.  So of course I decided to make my first quilt just for her!  When we were assigned partners it was just before Halloween so I was able to get a fairly good selection of fabric with a decent discount.  I wanted to show the patterns but I also didn't want anything too complicated so I chose to do a basic nine-patch with some big squares in between (I know there's a name for these but I can't remember!).

I stitched in the ditch (that's the term, right?  Cheesy) for the nine-patch and used my plush bat pattern in the big squares.

Back pics (I love this fabric! You can also see that I originally drew the bats on upside down... oops!)

I also used one of the two schmancy stitches that my sewing machine has on the binding and I really liked the results!

I loooooovvvvvveee it.  I know there are blips and mistakes but I honestly didn't care.  I thought I did pretty well for my first time and I was extremely satisfied! (That never happens.  I'm usually very hard on myself with new crafts and expect that I should get it on the first try.)  In fact I was so pleased with myself I decided (on about December 12th mind you) that I would make lap quilts for my mom AND grandma for Christmas! oi.  I got the tops done.  You can see them here.

Cool! The bat quilting is awesome. Great job! I love the binding stitching, too!

The bigger "squares" are called snowballs (at least that's what I call them  Smiley)

Thank you! It helped a LOT that I've sewed that pattern many times before, otherwise I would've just done straight lines.
