Looking for a substitute for Rowan Big Wool and looking for exactly 8 st and 12 rows per 4 inches. My pet gripe: so many yarn sites and shops only give stitch gauge and not row gauge...so I"m having to spend a lot of time doing something that should be obviously available!

The only one I've found so far is Karabella Puffy and I'm not sure it would be particularly suitable as a substitute...

Have you tried yarndex.com? The reason most don't give row gauge is because that can always be dicey to match on a pattern and can be compensated for by knitting a few more or less rows. The stitch gauge is much more reliable.

I haven't looked up the gauges, but I like super-bulky yarn!  Maybe try these?

- Burlyspun
- Blue Sky Bulky
- Classic Elite Twinkle Soft chunky
- Cascade Magnum

Row gauge might not matter very much depending on what you're knitting.  Good luck!
