Does anybody use blogger or any sort of blog as their store? I plan to start with eBay just to see how much people would be willing to pay, but I would like to venture off into my own selling system (sans eBay and Etsy fees), and I think a blog would be a nice venue for this. And it would be easier than setting up my own website with my own domain.

Ideas?

Just make sure to read the rules of your blog of choice. Some don't like it when you conduct actual business on your blog, and they can shut you down.

I'm in the process of setting up a store through Wordpress. They have actual plugins, etc to help you set up a storefront and collect payments through Paypal. I haven't gotten very far with mine yet, but here's a link to the info on Wordpress.

Hey guys! I am enjoying all the advice I am picking up from thumbing through these pages..but I've stumbled upon another question:

I am looking to start selling on places other than etsy.  I'd like my own website but I can not afford it right now I dont' think.  (in time and money) So, I've seen some ppl who use their blogs to sell items.  I was wondering if this has worked for people in the past?  Have you had much sucess or little sucess doing this? do you know of any other places ppl are selling items?

I've tried on yahoo, geocities to be exact, I just don't like the look of their pages...I am in love with blogger's layout though.

Thanks a ton guys!

The use of wordpress is free. I use it as a content management system on my domain, and i've been using it for years! It's lovely!

Free websites that I see lots of, where people sell things, are on Blogspot.

There is a crazy amount of e-shops on Blogspot! Some shops do really well too. I guess it's all about how you market your website and products.

I just started my blog (launched yesterday-yipee)-anywho,my intention with it is to more so showcase my stuff then to sell my stuff..either way you go I guess is a good thing..for me I just didnt want the stress of keeping up with sales via my blog..I wanted to showcase my stuff and where to go when I eventually start selling via web..

I don't have a lot of input on using blogs to sell, but I have to say I don't think eBay is in any way a good example of what people will pay. eBay is like a giant garage sale and 99% of the people there are looking for a deal. If everyone only bids $5 would you actually be okay with selling the item for $5???

set your prices at what you need to charge and people will buy.
