Same here, but it sounds like fun.  If I can get "inspired" I think I might join!

Try thinking of some 50's themes and then projects will be easy to think of.   Say I was your partner.  I (really) love tiki stuff and movie monsters so you could embroider a monster on a shirt and make a tiki pendant... (just an example Cheesy)

Currently taking a hiatus from swapping.  Sad

I've always wondered what disease cured ham had.

I found a couple rockabilly galleries:

Maybe these can be inspirations.

There's the Vargas girls, drawings by Alberto Vargas <---nsfw  Wink  vargas was famous in the 40s more, but his work didn't exactly fade away in the 50s.

and 50s <a href="http://www.fiftiesweb.com/fashion/fashion-we.htm">fancy dresses</a>

while i don't plan on drawing a pin up or sewing a formal gown, i might consider using an image on something else, like a bag or shirt.

poodle skirts - or you could poodle-ify something else.  or if someone had one of those blythe dolls, you could make it a 50s style outfit.

you could build them a midcentury modern house Smiley

you might be able to get ideas from retroplanet: http://www.retroplanet.com/

here's reprotdepot's 40s and 50s fabrics page

i'd probobly count most of sublime stitching embroidery images.  even the ones i wouldn't even loosely be able to stuff into the fifties category, i'd still love to get.  yay jenny hart!  i like and have some old embroidery transfers too.

then there's jazz and the birth of rock n' roll.
rosemary clooney, nat king cole, muddy waters, tony bennett, ol' blue eyes, fats domino, conway twitty, buddy holly, hank williams sr, johnny cash...

hope that helps, ruby_soho

maybe a clutch or a a hat of some sort

If anyone needs ideas for a visual style, check out Lileks.com. It has really amazing postwar ephemera like ads, postcards, and comic books, and as a bonus the author's commentary is really funny.

Also, Populuxe by Thomas Hine is a book with really good images and might be helpful. It was originally published in the 80s but a new edition came out this year. The promo line is "From tailfins and TV dinners to Barbie dolls and fallout shelters: The look and life of midcentury America." I got it for Christmas and can't wait to read it.  Smiley
