Beehives were 1960s Smiley

You're right! It was invented in 1960 to be exact. I found an article about it here:

Wow.. ya'll have put up some great sites to check out.  Thanks for the inspiration.  I love the 50's.  My mom has always said I was born 50 years too late lol.  I'm an 80's baby!

I'm definetly probably going to do some embroidery for whoever my partner is.. and some sewing.  I already have some adorable ideas.  And sew_sew.. your idea about the 50's monsters/horror movie characters.. too cool!  That would be a lot of fun.

I just got a new sewing machine for christmas.. and I've already been stocking up on retro fabrics to make some adorable little aprons.  I hope my partner likes aprons.. because I can not wait to make one!

You can totally be my partner! LOL  I was just thinking that I would love an apron but forgot to put it on my form.  I love 50's kitchenware (except Fiestaware...don't ask).  I can't wait for partners *does a little dance*

Ooh, I put aprons on my questionnaire!  Wink

An antique store in my town just started its annual half-price sale yesterday and I bought a ton of old cookbooks. I don't know how people ate what they did in the 50s. There was a recipe in one that actually made me start to gag a little and I had to stop reading. It was a casserole made with bologna chunks, celery, and olives, with mayonnaise for the "sauce" and a crushed potato chip topping.  Ugh! Lips sealed

If the swap goes over 25, would anyone care to be the co-organizer?

Ack ... I hate conflicting internet sources!

http://www.fashion-era.com/1950s/1950s_2_fashion_accessories.htm#Hats
It says they came into style at the end of the '50's.

http://www.fashion-era.com/1950s_glamour.htm#Dusty_Springfield_and_her_Beehive_Hairstyle.___
And this part says that Dusty Springfield (who rocks my socks!) sported one in the late '50's.
