Ok I think I just realized what I did wrong. And I'm going to post in case anyone else might have done this too.
Round 5 says:
Chn1, Sc in same st, (3 sc in next chain space, sc in next sc) 15 times 3 sc in last chain 3 space. Join with a slip stitch to beginning sc.

I was reading it like this though:
Chn1, Sc in same st, (3 sc in next chain space, sc in next chain 3 space)

no wonder I had a little over half the stitches!

oooh sorcha i really like that open square! i think i may use that for a filler.

and craftADDchick, i *love* your colour placement for your march square. i think i may do that for my second march square which will be two-tone.

eliea i'm glad you got it figured out!! i do stuff like that all time.. i'm always reading patterns way too quickly and having to frog out rows at a time. c'est la crochet! Cheesy

Me too! I'm sitting here going "I'm an experienced crocheter! How can this be so difficult? *Grumble* *grumble* I write my own patterns and I can't get a stupid square right! *grumble* *Grumble*"
Rip the pattern out, start over, lather, rinse, repeat. Thats how my night went last night!

Sorcha I love that Sunburst Square!

Eliea I'm glad you figured out what the problem was. I hate when I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with a square.

I like your Sunburst too, Sorcha.
How many squares have you completed now?

Thanks! I did a similar thing with my March '07 square (which was similar in design) and I really liked how it looked. I was tempted to stick with one color, since I hate weaving in ends, but I'm very glad I didn't!

And, Sorcha, that open filler square is a fabulous complement to the squares that are the "official" ones. *Filing it away for future use*

I'm somewhere around 11 or 12 right now.  I've started and frogged about 8 others, giving up after finding problems with patterns or me not understanding it:)

I just counted mine and I have 15. I am surprised! I thought I had about 10.
I haven't posted a pic in a while. Maybe I'll get a shot of them together to show how it's looking so far.

well i finally got one of my march square's done. for some reason this has been the month of forgetting about the 12" squares, and deciding to plan and start more crochet projects than i can handle Cheesy

so i did get one done. but not two. not yet. i'm not sure if i want to do this pattern again or do another one. this was a nice pattern, it was relatively easy, a nice finished square too, but i found myself getting bored of it by the end. which is why it took so long to get it done (i had most of it done the first week of march!)

excuse the cat hair! and the colour is totally way off.

and i would love to see shots of everyone's squares together! especially those of you who have done 10! that's incredible!

here are all mine together so far, in bad light, complete with cat butt:
