Fiber Friday 12-21-07 - Holiday fun edition!

This is the "catch up on all the stuff you spun before" week aparently.  I haven't posted here in a couple weeks.  Here is what I have been up to

I spun up these Romney singles for a fulled rug I am planning to make for my front hall



This one is Aquarium Gravel, soon to be socks



And here is Rebecca, soon to be more socks

Oh the yarns are gorgeous this week! I love Aquarium Gravel!

I finally have something to show.

This is 'Arterial', it was on the spindle for like 3 months as I was too ill to finish it. 80yds of sock yarn made from Loop's 'Kimono' alpaca, silk, and merino batts.



This is 'Scraptastic', 60yds of bulky made from Loop's 'Confetti' alpaca and recycled sari silk batts. Theres a whole world of sparkle in this that doesn't photograph well.

Ooh.  I love the colors in Scraptastic.  Lovely yarns this week, everyone.  And here's hoping we all have more spinning time in the new year.

All 3 yarns are lovely! Lufah I especially like your Hanukkah Joy! I'm always envious of your hubby spinning with you. How did you convince him (or what piqued his interest?) I wish my hubby would, he's a great guy, just not crafty.

 Inlah_rah I love the black/white combo. I'm knitting with something similar to it right now (though mine isn't handspun goodness)

 

I just watched Lufah do it and it looked fun.  Not like we don't have a big enough stash to support two people 

Here is my only yarn from here latley.  297 yards and 8.5 oz of superwash that I spun...

It's going to be a bit thicker than I wanted, but should make some good house socks....

My hubby thinks it's cool too, but I think he has succumb to the stigma that it's " a girl thing" I guess? What persuaded you otherwise? (Can you tell I'm trying to convince him?)

I can't wait to see the rug that yarn makes, Amy!  Love the yarn made from the Loop batts, too - I was drooling over some of those on Etsy the other day.  Sigh.

Gomerriffic .... I think it came down to I just don't care if it's girly.  I don't know why, but I don't even remotely care.

I've been admiring for a long while, and I am hoping I get a spindle for Christmas so I can start. This week, I think Aquarium Gravel and Scraptastic are my favs.

I do have a quick question though- can you achieve such even, beautiful yarn from a drop spindle? Or do you only get those results from a wheel?

Stitches and Stones- both my yarns were made on a top whorl drop spindle, though I'm hoping santa will bring me a wheel :p

Wow, so much good stuff this week! Everyone made some amazingly beautiful yarn. I think this is the first week that I really liked every single colorway!

I've been making presents! I spun up some crazy hot pink super extra girly yarn and made a scarf for my boyfriend's 8 yr old niece:



I spun the yarn from batts that I carded from merino-cross wool, bamboo, and sparkle in various shades of pink - there are more pictures of the batts, yarn, and scarf on my flickr.

And I spun this self-striping yarn to make a pair of fingerless mitts for my cousin, in her favorite colors:

Hi haven't  been able to to much lately has been to hot   

my fist attempt at a blend batt has , silky wool tops, alpaca, bamboo, silk , firestar, glitz Angelina, and tencil


this is more true to the colour  have finished the bobbin now but don't know what to do with it, won't have much if I navajo ply it or even ply it with itself don't  want to lose the colour 



and this one I hand dyed and carded has some firestar to add a bit of glitter can't see it  too well in the photo are there  are 3 skiens for this think I might try and do my neice a jumper
