Hobby Lobby had tulle half off so I bought some on a whim and made my kiddo a princess tutu!

Here's a how-to since I took pictures as I made it.

First - sew together a piece of elastic the size of your kid (or yourself).
Then cut equal strips from your roll of half-off tulle. I used up the whole 25 yards, but I think mine would look better with even more. If your waist size is going to be bigger than a 3 year old, get two rolls
Then you tie each strip to the elastic in the way I pictured.. I hope the pictures show you how because I'm not sure how to explain it<p>
Continue around untill you've got a pretty tutu!

It'd also be cool to add several colors or ribbons.. but I was lazy tonight and wanted instant satisfaction so I whipped this up in 15 mins.

Yay for dress up clothes -- especially tu-tus! Great job.

I always thought it would be impossible to be unhappy while wearing a tu tu, wouldn't it?  Cheesy

How long did you cut each strip?

I'd say about 12 inches.. I just held it up to my daughter to see how long it should be and started cutting

ok finally im posting. I found this tut and went crazy! I never thought i could find something like this that would be so easy. So i just had to make one for a club i was going to. I went a little crazy with it and added a lot and sadly when i tried it on, it didnt look good on me, but it looked hella cute on my friend. So here's a picture of her modeling it for me. She's worn it several times to different clubs since, and i plan on making another friend a black and pink one, since i used almost all of my white tulle.

I bought elastic that's only 1/4 in wide, do you think it will still work?  It's for a 4 yr old.

Those are so pretty! My 4 year old is having a princess birthday party so I'm gathering my bff to help me make about 20 of them for all the girls, and of course, we're gonna wear one too! I hope i can buy some tulle in bulk..

I made these about a minute after reading about this. Two big sparkly pieces of tulle that used to be curtains, some more tulle bought on sale at Joann's, time on the rug cutting it into strips with the girls, way more time tying endless half hitches while watching DVDs of season 7 of Little Tragedy on the Prairie, and I've got...

...a couple of awesome little punk rock girls.

I'm sitting here slapping myself on the forehead.  Where was this post when I made this tutu in January?  When I tied 74,000 square knots because it didn't occur to me to just pull through the loops like you have here?  Holy crap this thing took me for-freaking-ever...

(I mean, yeah - she's incredibly cute in it, but that was a loooooooooot of knots.)

The good news - after reading this post, I'm inspired to finally make her that pink one she's been asking for.  Roll Eyes  You're a genius.   Grin

this is such a great idea! I've been wanting to make a tutu for my little ballerina-wanna-be, but have been a little intimidated of the idea of sewing it.

thanks!

i loved this idea and it was so simple. my niece just started a ballet class with some of her friends ( they're ages 3-6) so i made her this to wear with her leotard for her class. she LOVED it!! she won't let me get a picture of her in it but i took some of it on her barbie jeep lol. thank you so much for the tutorial
