I want to make a plated armour shirt from soda cans.  I've got like the pattern all sorted out in my head.  I want to lace the back up and have the loopholes be the can tabs.  I've brainstormed on how to attach the cans together so the dont cut or anything but I'm kinda stumped for ideas.  Help?

Cut them into strips and file the edges down?

Yeah but then how would you put them together?  I've considered saudering but i don't want to melt the labels because they seem to be made of plasticy stuff.

You could drill a hole in each corner of the strip and rivet them together in layers, like medieval banded armour.
