I don't know how many of you receive the LionBrand Newsletter, but this week there was a special charity feature on the Snuggles Project. The article (it's a short one) can be found here.

I think this would make a great knit-a-long. We could each make a few little blankies for the cats and dogs in our local shelters. There is a directory of shelters on the Snuggles website under FAQs. The shelters with the snuggle kitty icon will accept snuggles. If there are no shelters accepting snuggles near you, you could always call one up and ask if they accept easy-care blankets or towels.

There is also a list of patterns and suggestions on the website, but here is the rundown:
~ Easy to clean acrylic or cotton yarns of any weight (preferably doubled worsted or chunky for cushyness,
   but anything's fine).
~ A range of sizes can be made, here's the general guidelines:
14"X14" for kittens and small dogs
24"X24" for cats and small/medium dogs
             36"X36" for medium/large dogs
~ Any pattern or colors can be used, as long as it's made with love (although it is recommended that donators
refrain from using open stitch patterns as they don't provide as much warmth and can lead to tangling).

This is a great project for anyone wanting to use up their stash of acrylics/cottons, who's on a budget, who would like to give a little to animals in need, and who have some free time to enjoy knitting!

Sooo...who's with me???

What a great idea.  Once I'm done with holiday gift-making, I'd love to join.

I'm so glad you guys will join! And great idea, jesthester, to start a group for it on Ravelry. I here Ravelry is great. I'll also need to finish up some things before I can get busy with this. (I'm also starting a job tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes! I'm kinda nervous about it. It's my first real job. lol.)

I crochet also, so I've already started a Snuggles Crochet-a-long. No one's joined, yet, though.  Sad

Thanks! I hope the jobs goes well. I start in just a couple of hours. It's just my luck that I have an upset stomach on the first day, too!  Embarrassed

I will since I do both.  I sew, too, so I may be making some that way, too.
