Before http://pic9.picturetrail.com/VOL283/1709786/3491077/44262030.jpg and After http://pic9.picturetrail.com/VOL283/1709786/3491077/44261985.jpg

Hope those pics show up!  It took me about 3 days to do the whole process of painting, stenciling, and sealing.  I bought new drawer pulls for about 88 cents each at Home Depot.  I'm totally satisfied with the results!

Hey! No problem.  The dresser was free (curbside find); the paint was about $9 (ordered just the color I wanted from Home Depot, so you could probably find cheaper); the knobs were 88 cents a piece; and the cost of misc. supplies (paint brush, stencil stuff, etc.).  Total= $$30-35

Wow, great find! Your simple additions really added to an already great piece. What did you seal it with?

wow!  the finished product is great.  I'm surprised that you didn't strip it and clean it and stuff.  That's really what it looks like by the quality of the outcome!

very very cool.

I did clean it with a damp cloth and rubbed some of it with a bit of fine sandpaper.  I sealed it with several coats of Polyurethane satin finish.  My furniture motto is - if it's wood, keep it!

reminds me of a free dresser i revamped (except that yours is fresh and new and very lovely, and mine is about due for a new paint job)...

i repainted the dresser, then painted leaves and pressed them like stamps over that.

I love curbside finds. I love to imagine what they might become.

Here is a cool chair I found for free, and worked my crafty magic on. With my kitty who was also free, but not a roadside find.

man, i need to go dumpster diving in like apartment complexes -- we threw out a ton of stuff like lol - we rolled our dryer down a hill one time - to get it to the dumpster and watched it roll - was so much fun!!! -- I think we also threw out an entertainment center and some leather couches I hated - that were all ripped up and smelly - had i been crafty at the time (i was very green in the home improv/craftiness at the time) i would have re-apholstered and made beautiful!

I feel you on that point!  I donated to charity one of the best chairs I've ever had.  The fabric was worn out in areas, but it was the softest, most comfortable chair ever.  Sometimes when you move, especially on that last day, you feel totally frustrated and exhausted - you start purging things you would otherwise keep in a heartbeat.  Ahh...

I wish that I could rememer to take before pictures of my roadside finds, that would be a really cool thing to look back on. I live in a neighborhood that has a fair amount of college students and every May is dumster diving season because they all move out and leave behind a pleathera of stuff for me to find. It's way better than Christmas!! *robyn

good idea!  I haven't picked up curbside stuff in a long time... before or after my find.  And colleges are great around May, when students leave for the summer.  You'll be surprised.  I know at my college (in Ohio) some dorms would have an area designated for free stuff - clothes, decor items, unopened dry goods, and furniture...

Your dresser is amazing! I have a wooden bookcase that I want to try that with; it is currently painted black with quite a few scratches in it. I want to paint it bright green, so would I have to use primer first or is it safe to just paint over the black?

You'll probably be happier with the results if you use primer.  It won't take as many coats of the green paint if you prime it first, and the finish will probably be smoother.  Primer dries in under an hour, so it doesn't even add that much time to the project.

If the shelves are laminate, you'll definitely want primer, because the paint will stay on so much better over a primer that's designed for glossy surfaces than it will over just the laminate.

ps - the dresser rocks!  I've had NO thrift karma whatsoever lately, but now I'm feelin' like getting out there a bit and taking a look around.

Oh, that's lovely!! I've always wanted to paint my boring white bookshelf, lol, but my mom doesn't want me to because if I do, then it won't match the room. lol. We have 2 of the same shelves... My sister has the matching one. lol.

I LUUURVE what you did with it, it looks really cute. I think I am going to go for a walk... and closely inspect my neighbor's trash while I'm at it. lol
