The elements are used as a theme in lots of artwork, so why not carry it over to crafting?

Elements as materials/processes- make something out of clay for Earth, windchimes for Wind, fire polish some beads for Fire

Elements as representations - make three different collages or crafts which represent personalities or other things you associate with each element- a yoga mat Earth, a keyhole scarf for wind, a tank top or sexy red dress for fire

Elements as color schemes- simply make something with Earth colors, something with pastel colors (Wind), and something with reds, oranges and yellows for Fire.

Other elements could be used, too, like the real ones on the periodic table, or more proverbial elements like the ones above, too. This challenge could be interpreted in so many different ways, so that it allows for a lot of creativity.

What do you think ? Smiley

I think this would be a really fun idea! I like that you could use colors that relate to the elements, or you can change up your actual craft/media to relate. Cool!

This seems like a great idea, actually...You can bring a lot of things into this, maybe even merge one or two things you're good at.

I wanted to mention, this idea also lines up with Project Spectrum 2008 - they have a group on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/project_spectrum/

Basically, they assign colors to about half of the year (not all of them since people are busy) and then people craft or take photos that go with those colors. Well, the theme for 2008 is the elements! Here's the listing:

February/March - fire (orange, red, pink)
April/May - earth (green, brown, metallics)
June/July - air (gray, white, yellow)
August/September - water (blue, black, purple)

So, we could potentially join forces with Project Spectrum as well ... I'm sure some of those members are on Craftster (there are a lot of knitters!) ... I'll cross post this to their discussion board as well, so that they can find out about this here.

This one reminds me of my current favourite joke:

"The 5th element is awesome!!"

this sooo would be interesting! i would love to see what people come up with!

People who take time to be alone usually have depth, originality, and quiet reserve.

I like this idea too. I'm an acupuncturist and we are all about the five elements: wood (green/blue), fire (red), earth (yellow/brown), metal (white) and water (black).
