UPDATE - finally finished it and secured the batting in the center.  in case you can't read it, it says the baby's name (Summer Rayne) in the center, with the date of birth.  I did it with a free hand quilting foot and it took FOREVER.  I love how it turned out though, and can't wait to give it to them...
(see new pictures)

I originally saw this pattern for the blanket buddy:

but thought, "hey, I could do that on my own!".  Plus, I had my own idea for the stuffed animal head at the top.  My aunt is expecting (twin girls!) for Christmas, so being an avid Hello Kitty lover, I thought I would make her a personalized gift the girls would love.  (Or I would, at least. Wink)
I could do a tutorial if anyone wants, but it was fairly simple, only took a day or two.  The most time consuming part was embroidering the face.  I imagine anyone could figure it out by looking at it.

Anyway, enough blabbing - here are the pictures:

I appreciate any suggestions, critiques or comments.
Thanks for looking!

Very cute.  My daughter got one of these when she was small.  I love your version.

If you do not want to batting to shift, esp. after a washing or two, you do need to sew the layers together.   You can just do straight lines like a checkerboard if that's what you are comfortable with.  Or if you want to practice a bit you could get more creative and do flowers or even just curly-q's.  (And you are correct in calling it quilting.  You would be quilting the layers together.)

We are in the process of switching over to cloth diapers.  Would love some advice, hint, tips.   Will swap for diapers!

Very adorable! Great embroidery too.  I'm sure your aunt will be touched and your baby cousins will cherish them.
