We celebrate the Solstice at our house, and I started this tree skirt several years ago. I thought I'd work on it a little bit this year, and I finished it instead!

Warning, gratuitious use of sequins below!

Action Shot!

Just picked out different gold fabrics and trims. Appliqued the sun on a sparkly fuschia satin using the fusible webbing stuff. Then hand sewed the trim and sequins on. There is a layer of polyester batting in there, too. It's very lush and pretty - I just love how it came out!

Thanks for looking! Smiley

beautiful!
it makes me so sad that it sits under a tree, though - i'd be tempted to hang it on the wall  Grin

Amazing!
I celebrate Winter Solstice too, and though I dislike pink, I really like the tree skirt! My tree has burgundies and golds on it, so if the background was a nice deep red/burgundy it would be PERFECT for my tree! Cheesy Though I wouldn't do sequins. They must've been a pain! Grin The fact that you hand sewed all those tiny sequins to the skirt makes it even more impressive Grin

thanks everyone! I should probably clarify - On the big sun rays, the sequins are sewn individually, but the smaller sun rays, the sequins were all connected already, so I simply hand to couch on the strand of sequins. So that part was not so much of a pain. Smiley

Your skirt is fabulose, but just wondering, what do you mean by saying you celebrate Solstice. I know what a solstice is, but how to do celebrate it  Huh

Thanx

Best Treeskirt EVER! I hope you don't mind, I am totally borrowing this idea from you.

As for celebrating the solstice, she means this:

I'm a science geek (molecular biologist), so Solstice is the holiday that spoke to me the most. Also, I love all things celestial, I have suns all over the house because people keep giving them to me. For us it's a very secular thing, I'm not wiccan or pagan. We put up a tree, and my daughter makes a new sun for the top every year. The ornaments on our tree are all animals, paying homage to the tree of life that we are a part of. I like to have the kids do nature crafts, like make bird seed ornaments to help out the critters during the cold winter. We open our presents on the Solstice, build a fire and invite friends and family over for dinner. Then on christmas, we always go over to my in-laws house and do the same stuff all over again - lol!

Hope that helps! It's pretty much just a secular christmas but celebrated a few days early.

I'm working on a Solstice "advent" calendar next, but I had to finish this tree skirt before I allowed myself to work on it. Smiley
