Settling in for the long winter, in which some of us hole up and craft while others hole up and sew. (Yes, we venture out for food, jobs, or school, but only if we have to.) If there are others, a January or February meet-up might be nice.

Is anyone else in this area?

I live in Rochester.  It would definitely be nice to have some sort of crafty event... a good reason to stop hiding from the snow (well, aside from going to work and Wegmans). ;]

How nice! I was ready to assume it was just me and my daughter (also a member here) trying to find ways to store ridiculous amounts of fabric and crafts materials. (If I had another house, I'd be all set.)

I'm thinking perhaps a weekend day in February. That gives us plenty of time to check calendars and make plans, I hope.

Should we meet for coffee or tea someplace casual? Those who have something they're working on small enough to carry could bring it--show and tell for grown-ups.

I'm southeast of the city, in Brighton. We've got one person in the west. Where to meet? The only coffee place that comes to mind as perfect (easy to find, plenty of parking, never too crowded, not too far from a JoAnn's) is in Webster near Bay Town Plaza, inconvenient for us all. Surely we can do better.

I could do any weekend but the 9th/10th of February.

Spot coffee is always nice downtown?

Wherever we meet, I will not know where it is.  (lol)  So I will need detailed directions on how to get there.

I also have no suggestions.  So helpful, I know.  :p

Someone pick a date and time!  Are you guys going to I<3 Handmade?  )http://secondstorie.blogspot.com/2008/01/new-event_06.html)  Maybe we could meet up there and do something.

I can't make it on the 1st.  Sad But I totally encourage you all to go and fill me in on how it was!  Wink

How about we also meet on February 16 at 3pm at Spot Coffee? (Same place that the I <3 Handmade will be). I will put it on my calendar to be there.  Hopefully some of you will be able to join me.  I will probably be the one sewing felt or making jewelry.  Grin

My calendar's down and I'm up, but I'm pretty sure I'm free.

For those who don't know where Spot is, the address is 200 East Avenue, sort of downtown-ish but not in the heart of the offices. That's right were East intersects with Matthews, in between Broadway/Scio  and the Inner Loop. Maybe you're familiar with the Little Theatre a short block away at 240 East Avenue?

There's a picture of the building here: http://www.spotcoffee.com/chevy.html --look for the distinctive arched front window. The building used to hold a car dealership with something fast and shiny parked right there in its showroom.

ravenladyj, please feel free to invite your friend. Anybody who stitches is going to fit right in, I bet.

Does anybody need more detailed directions to get there? If so, where would you be coming from?

Hope to see many of you then!

Mim

If we meet on the weekend, we can park for free in the Midtown garage.  It's just a short walk to Spot Coffee.

I have an idea...

You know how you have craft supplies that are just sitting around, not being used?  And how you may not find a use for them for awhile?

Well...why not bring some craft/art supplies that you know you won't be using, so that if others can use them, they can take them.  Kind of an in-person swap?

And along that line... bring any completed projects for swap, too!

Swaps of materials we know we won't be using is fine by me, but I'm still holding onto fabric I bought in my teens. I don't seem to have a pattern of parting with things easily. (That explains the clutter!)

BTW, I talked to my daughter (also a member here, but never hits this part of the site) and she'll be coming, too. Maybe you saw her two-headed goat last month.

Considering the weather outside as I write this, let's figure out what we'll do if the weather looks really bad that day. If that happens, how about if we discuss it here between noon and two on the 16th and make the decision at 2:00 to cancel or not?

I'm most likely going to be looking at a possible site for my wedding around 3:00, so I might not be able to make it.  But I'll be with you in spirit!

Sheesh, somebody get me a new head! I completely forgot our meet-up was this past weekend. I hope some of you made it, and enjoyed meeting one another more than I enjoyed prying up furring strips from our basement floor (where we had a small flood a few months ago), which is what I was doing on Saturday afternoon.

I'm so sorry not to have remembered, and hope it didn't inconvenience anybody.

I was there... but didn't see any other crafters.  The coffee and dessert was good, though!

Well, at least you got out of the house and enjoyed something tasty. BTW, how was parking in the area? I'm thinking we might want to know, when and if we try this again.

When I went for the I <3 Handmade event, we parked in a parking garage and walked over...I think it was the East Ave parking garage, but I'm not sure.

Is there anything current going on?
Also, anyone know about sewing classes (preferable free) in the rochester area?
I inherited a Singer and have no idea how to use it but would love to start modding my own clothes.
Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean the group that meets at the spot and other downtown locations? I went once a few  years back while on winter break from college. The people there were pretty friendly and knowledgeable. Give it a try, I'm sure they'd be willing to help you out.

Hi,  I'm a recent transplant to the area.  I'm wondering if anyone in Rochester uses this website to share?  I'm a novice crafter but I interested in getting some crafters together.  I'm from Boston and there is a cool crafting scene there- wonder if there is one here too?  Interested in maybe organizing a not your grandma's craft show similar but on a smaller scale to Bazaar Bizarre, http://www.bazaarbizarre.org/
