this is shaping up nicely... we've got a few people signed up from diverse hometowns, with mostly compatible but not identical musical tastes. i can't wait to see who else gets on board!

Hi girls,

I'm so up for this, and totally excited!

Oh, by Spnga I mean Stockholm! Really obvious to you US guys huh? Wink Maybe I should have specified that when I signed up, sorry. Spnga is just an addressing area thingy, and my address as I enclosed when signing up IS correct. Spnga is a part of Stockholm though. As being a very SMALL part of Stockholm I'll not be promoting music from local Spnga (heheh, just thought of that and was instantly amused) but rather from Stockholm as a whole. Roll Eyes Ehh, making myself clear, right? Sorry.

And while I'm all about clarifying things:

I don't have any idea of what to consider a "crafty item" - should it be say, actual jewelry or print zines, or rather website links, flyers or something of the likes? (stuff thats more easy/unexpensive to mail) And if the latter, in my case they would be in Swedish and probably not very useful to someone in another country. Any clever ideas girls? What are you planning on sending other than music?

this sounds cool, but i'm having difficulty thinking of enough music.... which is silly, there are tons of awesome artists in vancouver. unfortunately, most of my favourites aren't readily available for downloading.

and the only crafty thing showing my hometown culture i can think of is native art, and i HATE totem poles. what kinds of crafty things are other people doing?

hmmmm. will have to think about this! i still have a few days to sign up, right?

We have like, OCEAN art in Vancouver... um... nature?  Photography?  Yoga or Coffee-related craft things?  Vancouver culture is so weird.

i know! um, trees, emily carr, mountains, fleece, MEC, really, we're boring! well, i like emily carr and trees.

i don't know if we really have a culture..... we're kind of a big mishmash of culture. maybe i can do something fun with the sari fabric i bought today.....

Thanks for the clarification, decibel-- I would not have known that Spanga was part of Stockholm!

As for crafty items, I intended it to mean items you craft yourself, but you can interpret as you like. Crafts could be made *about* your local culture (e.g., a wallet with a local celebrity stencilled on it, fake tourist postcards), or made from some part of your local culture (e.g., pillow made out of local band t-shirt, something decoupaged with local zine clippings).

crafty_dame, if you are having trouble finding vancouver tunes, pm me. i'm just in victoria-- i might be able to help (i have lots of local band sites bookmarked for downloads, plus CDs).

The updated list of swap cities so far includes:

Spnga (Stockholm), Sweden
Victoria, BC, Canada
Chicago, IL, USA
Santa Rosa, CA, USA
Seattle/Minneapolis, USA
Washington DC, USA
Peoria/Quad Cities, IL, USA
Clinton, IN, USA
Saint Louis, MO, USA

(adjusted for new sign-ups, drop-outs, typos, etc!)

2 more days to sign up! It would be great to get some more swappers in Europe and Canada, to avoid overseas shipping.
