Hey everyone! I was really inspired by the knit monster slippers in the new Stitch&Bitch, but I really don't have the time to knit a pair of slippers, so I figured out a way to make them out of fabric, from scratch! The outside and the part your foot sits on is made of red shag fur, the lining of the top part is red fleece, and the bottoms of the slippers are this red texturized vinyl (to keep you from slipping everywhere). I sewed on googly eyes too! I was gonna add teeth and stuff, but I kinda just like them the way they are. They are really warm, too. Comments please!

Ok you guys heres the tutorial as requested! Lots of pics......
Step 1: Trace foot onto wrong side of texturized vinyl (or whatever fabric you want the bottom of the slippesr to be made out of).

Step 2: Smooth edges a bit and add seam allowance (I did 1/2"). Cut two.

Step 3: Trace vinyl bottoms onto fur fabric, and cut. When cutting fur, cut the back of it with a knife or razor blade. This prevents you from cutting the actual "hair" and helps keep fuzzies from going EVERYWHERE!

Step 4: This part gets a little confusing.. Put your foot on the bottom of the slippers (keeping inside of the seam allowance). Okay.. now take the lining fabric for your slippers (I used fleece) and drape it over your foot, keeping it snug, but not tight. Just right really! Feel through the fabric, and trace around the edges, where you can feel the vinyl bottom through the fabric. It makes a lopsided crescent shape. Trace across the top however far back you want it to go, then add seam allowance on that edge ONLY (the rest already has it because you traced it in). Cut two out of fleece and two out of fur.

You should have the following pieces cut out now:

Step 5: Take the pieces you just cut out and sew the straight edge right sides together.

Step 6: Fold back so that right sides are facing out. Pin it to the fur foot piece, having the fleece facing the fur foot piece. Sorry you can't really see the pins! But the idea right now is that you are going to sandwich it all together.

Step 7: Next, take the vinyl piece, and pin it right on top, vinyl facing down, to the stacked fur. So basically what you have is a sandwich with big fur piece, then the fleece/fur toe cap (fleece facing down), then the vinyl on top. (in order to keep layers from shifting during sewing, it might help to baste, or pin it REALLY GOOD)

Step 8: Sew all the way around, leaving an opening about 3" or so. Turn it rightside out.

Step 9: Sew shut the opening, sew on some facial features, and voila! Slippers! Heres a pic of the bottom, before I sewed the hole shut.

This is my first tutorial. I hope it all makes sense! If there are any questions let me know!
