I like to get old boxes at the thrift store, that have these cheesey designs (but a good indent to grout in!) (just an example, not the same one I use below):


And then  I paint the box, put in picture marbles that  I made with stamp images (see http://www.craftster.org/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=360 and some beads...

And then grout it!  Make sure to cover the images with modge podge (or some decopuage stuff), so that the water from the grout doesn't ruin them:
