Hey grrls (and guys).  My name's Laura, and I am brand-spanking new to this site.  I'm from Auburn, a college student/photographer/artist/brand-new knitter there.  It's good to see other crafty people from Bama!

It's sad how dead this section of the board is, isn't it?

I'm from near Auburn (Tallassee) -- but going to school in Mobile (USA).  A belated "welcome" to the boards, and hello to a fellow Alabamian!

So what is the craft scene like in Auburn? I may be moving there. Anything to speak of or is it limited to Michaels? Or do you have to go to Montgomery for everything?

I live in Fairhope Alabama. Lived in Auburn, in the 80's and I'm also from Pensacola. I'm an avid knitter, painter, sewer, etc., but knitting is my true passion

hahaha.  craft scene in Auburn.  it's a hilarious but sad joke!  Cry

if you want some crafting materials, wal-mart's the scene.  even the three thrift shops here don't have much crafty stuff; definately not much yarn, but sometimes some decent sheets and things that you can use as material.  sorry to be a bummer!  i'm moving to St. Louis after Christmas, which is when I graduate, but if you get here before let me know!   Smiley

and hello stephanie!   Cheesy

I'm not a newbie to Crafster but to Auburn. Moved here in August 07.  You are correct in that there's not much commercial support for crafting (i.e., lack of stores) but there is a good yarn shop in Opelika (if you can dismiss the owner) and the new hobby lobby rocks!

PM me if you are interested in joining a local crochet/knit group. We try to meet every week.

Hi!  I don't live in Auburn anymore (currently in Colorado) but graduated in '99  and we definitely didn't have anything craftier than J and M then!  I think it is cool that crafty people are uniting in War Eagle country!   Smiley

got to get the crocheters onboard too!

There is a knitting group that meets at BAM on Tuesdays. You can read their posts on Ravelry, if you belong to that group. then there's another one (I belong to it) that is a SNB group. Small group of women who come together and craft.

I'm a newbie to the boards but not Auburn. WAR EAGLE! I WISH there was a craft scene here. I have to get my fill online... I can't wait to be able to reach out and do swaps and get to see items from crafters all over. If I need supplies I either get them online or wait until my next trip to the Columbus, GA Michael's.

Just letting the Montgomery area crafters know - JoAnns is coming to East Chase in Montgomery!  I'm so excited.  I have spent up to an hour waiting in line at Hancocks for fabric to be cut.
