perhaps i should have posted this under the other "felt pins" topic, but i was afraid it'd get lost in there....anyway....

so, i was browsing urban outfitters website today and saw the cutest bird pin....
you can see it here:  http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=6863&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=77&iSubCat=87&iProductID=6863
well, as cute as it is, there's no way i was going to pay $16 for it, so, i made my own, which i think turned out even cuter!

Front:

Back:

it was pretty easy too, i just drew the pieces onto different felt, cut them out,  stitched on some sequins and beads, and the pin back, and stitched up the whole thing together. i was going to use a real twig for him to stand on, but i kinda like him without it. i used brown embroidery floss to sort-of give him some legs instead.

i love it and can't wait to wear it!

That's adorable Grin I think I will make my own birdy pin if that's allright. Great idea ..I bet you spent way less than $16 to make that and it's more special because it's homemade.

That is so incredibly cute and your bird is so close to the urban oufiters one! I even think yours is cuter.  Smiley

very nice! $16 is way too much for a felt pin

OMG!  That's so friggin' cute!  Awhile ago I saw the cutest luggage tag on UO's website that looked like an owl and I copied it out of felt...but never thought to make a pin of it...was just gonna make an applique or something!  Great job and $16.00 is outrageous for a pin...besides I like yours better!  Grin

Thanks so much!
i agreee--things are way better when they are home/hand made!
i'm sure my pin cost less then $1 (probably less than .25 cents, really...) to make... i mean, felt is like 25 cents a sheet, and sequins and beads and stuff are cheap. it's crazy really to think someone probably spent $16 on the UO pin!!!

BlueKiwiCat--i saw that luggage tag, and loved it!! do you have any pictures? i'd love to see your re-make.

I saw the owl that they had on the Urban Outfitters website that was originally priced at 16 dollars(!!) and decided that I could not only make it myself but make it better, with prettier colors.

so here it is!

I'm pretty sure if you click on the original link for the felt bird it will probablly have a link to the owl as well!

I just bought that pin off of the urban outfitters website.  It was only like $3.75 when I bought it, so I'm not totally kicking myself, but wow, your's is so cute.  I bought a ton of felt this weekend, so I definitley think I'll have to make a little owl pin.

I did these about a month ago, they are much smaller, and hot-glued rather than stitched.  Oh well, I'll one up UO one of these days.
