I've had my cutting mat (Fiskar) for about 2 months and the smell is still horrible. My husband says the smell is like a dead animal.  Roll Eyes I don't think it is quite that bad, but it's still pretty nasty. I read online a suggestion for washing it down with dish detergent, but that hasn't helped.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Any solutions on how to get rid of the smell?

I think I'd be taking it back and asking for a new one, my mat never smelt bad, not the same brand but no smell even when new.

I bought it at Wal-mart so they might take it back.  I've been using it a lot and it has tons of cut marks on it.  I don't know if it even should have cut marks though since it is supposed to be self-healing.  Did I just get a bad mat maybe??

Cut marks do happen - usually little bits of fabric get in there and keeps the slices open.

try cleaning it again, running a toothbrush or nail brush over the cuts. See if that gets the gunk out.

I'd take it back, too. Mine doesn't smell unless I really get in close. Part of that is my kid spilled thinner on it, though.

That's a good idea about the toothbrush.  I'm going to clean out the cut marks and then return it.  Thanks for the help - I really appreciate it.
