That's awesome!  I love Lego Mindstorms.  We use them at work to teach the kids about robotics (I work for a kids engineering camp).

For those people who were looking at building them who don't have the right parts kicking around:  Lego stopped standard kits of Mindstorms a year or two ago, but they still sell educational kits and solo pieces through educational supply stores like Spectrum.  Keep in mind, however, that a kit costs a couple hundred dollars.  An RCX brick (the yellow "brain") costs close to a hundred on it's own, and the motor another twenty.

Ebay.  Wink

Soooo freaking cool.  I heart legos, and I just learned how to knit, so this makes me extra happy.   Cheesy

CrazyBCJen is right, the parts are hard to get ahold of.  We tried contacting lego about them and they were no help, I'm not sure if the RCX is still being sold in the UK at all.  We ended up going on ebay but paid about 100 for the RCX, 15 for the motor, and 10 for the turntable so it's not a project for everyone.    However, if you already had the pieces on hand it'd be a great way to put them to use.

My brother saw this and was like...what the hell...someone has too much time on their hands...why would you make a yarn catapult?

lol I explained it to him, it was great. Made my day.

I love my brother. ^_^

Coming Soon: A movie demonstration of the winder in action.  Hopefully this will help people understand just how it works.
