That is so beautiful and touching. As a hippy/traveler/hitchhiker/backpacker, I think you totally hit the nail on the head with this journal! I'm sure your brother is going to love it and the thought that went into this gift.

Oh good!  Thanks a lot.  It's one of those gifts I've 2nd guessed myself on....that it is either cheesy and silly, or funky and cool.  I'm hoping he'll think the latter.  Boys can be hard to read sometimes though.  Oh well.

That is awesome.  I'm sure he'll love to write stuff in it, stick ticket stubs and pics and email addresses, etc etc in it.  Tell him to definitely bring a glue stick/ scotch tape with him on his travels so he can add "ephemera" stuff to his journal.  Quick question, if you don't mind:  HOW HOW HOW do you use a sewing machine to sew up pages into a journal?  If you have time, I'd appreciate a simple explanation (if you have time!) as I am in the process of trying to make my lil sis (pre-med student) a da Vinci-notebooks style journal?

Quick question, if you don't mind:  HOW HOW HOW do you use a sewing machine to sew up pages into a journal?  If you have time, I'd appreciate a simple explanation

I just cut the pages to the desired size, then folded them in 1/2.  Then, I sewed them straight up the middle, about 7 sheets at a time.  I then put the sheets ALL together, sewed the whole thing one more time, folded again, and then cut the edges to make it straight (an old-school gulliotine paper cutter is good for this, the big heavy ones like they had in school when we were kids).  I glued the back page into the book!

If this doesn't make sense, let me know.  I'll do a quick photo tute when I get a chance.

Thanks guys!

Well, he wasn't really impressed or amused. Sad  Oh well.  I liked it.  It was definitely better than the pile of NOTHING he got for me.

Crap! How disappointing.  Angry
Maybe you can steal it back from him and hold onto it until he goes on a big trip; in other words, until he has learned to properly appreciate it!
Well, we love it, and you love it, and that's what's most important. What you put out there in the universe (including craftings!) will come right back to you, even if it's not directly or in the way we hope.

This crafter is out of service most of the rest of 2015 due to a wild schedule, swapping once in a while when I can't fight the feeling anymore ("I've forgotten what I started fighting fooooor...").

Personal swaps: I have lots of home-grown rosemary and white sage available.
