I am going to try dabbling in needle punching...When looking on hershners.com for a punch needle, I keep seeing "punch needle refills." What is this? Can I just use this or is there some sort of punch needle holder type thing? Confused. Huh

I'm talking about punch needle embroidery, as talked about here: http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayArticle?articleNum=ae0413.

I didn't know it had to do with felting over needlework, because I believe it is primarily done on fabric or canvas, but I guess it does since the post got moved!

If anyone can help with the tools, that would be great!  Smiley

I think I had a kit for that as a kid... I'm wondering if there's another name for it, though? The description you linked to sounds pretty much the same, but I definitely remember it being called something else.

Anyway, I did some googling and came up with www.punchneedleembr oidery.com, which seems to sell tools for it. (Pretty dang expensive, though.) I looks like you do need a special holder for the needles.

Good luck! I hope you find the tools you need, because I'd love to see what you make with it!

I just did one of those today! I got a kit at Michael's and was suprised when it didn't come with the needle I needed. Michael's has them, and so does Joanne's Fabric, if you have those. It was $3 or something if I remember. Have fun!

coincidentally, i just pulled my old kit out of the closet last night. i believe the most common brand name is Purr-Fect Punch. i just started looking it up this morning and i found that you will come up with more hits if you search for 'Punch Embroidery' or 'Punch Needle Embroidery'. here are some of the links that look pretty good...
