I am thinking of making another Bulky Sampler Coat from Mary Maxim, which is really just a long cardigan.  Can this be done on circulars?  How would I handle the shaping?  Any instructional links would be appreciated.

Yes, it's probably a good idea to do it on circulars if you plan to make it seamless. The circs will handle a much larger number of stitches. However, you wouldn't join and knit in the round; just co the sts you need for the back and two fronts and work flat back and forth to the underarms. Then you'll have to divide up and work each section separately according to the directions for knitting it in pieces, and will only have to sew up the shoulder seams.
