that's me in my first ever dress!

the front of the dress

one fine day, i decided to go take some sewing lessons! so i called up a few places, went down to one sewing school and learnt how to make a pair of shorts and an a-line skirt. being busy with my choir practices and everything, i just went down for two full days to learn

then, i decided to make a sundress! i really liked the sundress that my mother had from roxy, so i took a dress pattern and drew out a sundress sort of pattern.
i did have to call the teacher to enquire though ): but now! i'm sure i can make another one of this sort of sundress.
it's my first attempt to a tutorial AND a sundress

hoep you like it!

this is the invisible zip which i sewed on! i felt so accomplished just right after sewing the zip. it took AGES!

this is the front of the dress again (:

the back of the sundress.
TUTORIAL
for the sundress, you will have to measure a few parts
i will use the fixed size M measurements for an example
Neck: 32. taking 32/ 6 + 0.5 = 5.8 [for neck across] and 32/6+2= 7.3 [ for neck down]
Shoulder: 34 34/2 = 17
Bust: 86
Front 86/4 +2.5 = 24Back 86/4= 21.5Waist: 64
Front 64/4+1+3 =20Back 64/4-1+3 = 18Front Waist length: 41.5
Back Waist Length : 39
Front width: 28 28/2=14
Back Width 32 32/2= 16
Pitch of Breast: 17 17/2= 8.5
Breast Point: 24
Armpit: 40 40/2= 20
Hip: 92
Front: 92/4+1= 24
Back: 92/4+2= 25
for a TIGHTER skirt
Front: 92/4+1 = 24
back: 92/4= 23 OR back 92/4-1= 22 [even tighter skirt]
Length of skirt: 55 (this is always up to you on how long you wan your skirt to be)
Armpit: 40
40+3= 43
(43-8) / 2 = 17.5
pattern,
i think the tutorial i gave was way too complicated.

sorry about that!
therefore,
i scanned in my 1/4 sized pattern for you to follow
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z109/eugeniaeugenia/sundresspatternfront.jpgthat is the one for the front
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z109/eugeniaeugenia/sundresspatternback.jpgand this is the one for the back.
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z109/eugeniaeugenia/sundresspatternfrontcutting.jpgthis is how you cut the front. i gave instructions on this as it is definitely very complicated.
1 draw a straight line and mark the neck measurement [neck across]
2 draw a straight line down, right angled, nad then makr the neck measurement [neck down]
3 join the two markings with a straight line and then, take the centre and mark it down 1.5 and draw a curve from two points, the lowest part of curve being 1.5 cm away from the straight line
4 mark the shoulder measurement [ same line as where you marked neck across]
5 from there, draw 4cm down, this is standard , and join the mark to the neck across.
6 from top [side] mark the armpit measurement.
7 from that mark, draw a straight line across. then mark it with the bust measurement [front of course]
8 from top [side, again] mark the front waist length. from that mark, draw a straight line
9 on that straight line, mark the hip measurement.
10 From the FWL, mark down 20 cm. [standard] and draw a straight line across. on that straight line, mark the hip measurement.
11 from the FWL draw the skirt length. from there, draw a straight line across. then, take the mark from the hip measurement down to where the skirt line is, at a right-angle.
12 From the straight line at which you drew the armpit line across, to the mark of {down 4cm} , divide the measurement by two, and draw a straight linei across.
13 On that straight line, you may mark the front width. that mark will be joined the the {down 4cm} mark, in a straight line. that mark will also be joined to the armpit mark, also in a straight line.
14 On the second joining, you take the middle of the straight line, mark 2.5 cm down. and draw a curve.
15 join the hip measurement mark, to the waist measurement mark, witha CURVED ruler.
16 then, join the waist measurement mark to the armpit mark.ahhhhh. i can't figure out how to explain it furhter ):
i will scan in my 1/4 sized pattern and then post it again. for now, admire the dress and tell me how i could improve it

there's also a slit on the side. mine had lining, but i have zero idea how to explain the lining.
ahhh, sorry ): ): ):
XOXO
