I made this one last night, and finished it up this morning~ he's Mr. Tucan!!

He's a silly little bird!!  I used Caron Simply Soft yarn, and the colors would have been different, but my cats got into my yarn stash- again!!

Here is how to duplicate Mr. Tucan:

Materials:

Size F hook

Caron Simply Soft yarn, in whatever 4 colors you like

google eyes

felt

glue

and whatever else you usually use

Beak: (i used light yellow)

6 sc in a ring

rd1: 2sc in each sc around (12 sc)

rd2: 2sc in the first sc, sc in the next sc around (18 sc)

rd3: sc in each sc around (18 sc)

rd4: 2sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc around (24 sc)

rd5: sc in each sc around (24 sc)

rd6: 2sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc around (30 sc)

rd7-13: sc in each sc around (30 sc)

rd14: 2sc in first sc, sc in next 4 sc around (36 sc)

rd15: sc2tog, sc in next 7 sc around (32 sc)

rd16: sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc around (28 sc)

rd17: sc in each sc around (28 sc)

fasten off, leave long tail for sewing

Body: (i used light brown, brown, and plum)

With color #1, 6 sc in a ring

rd1: 2sc in each sc around (12 sc)

rd2: 2sc in first sc, sc in next sc around (18 sc)

rd3: 2sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc around (24 sc)

rd4: 2sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc around (30 sc)

rd5: sc in each sc around (30 sc)

rd6: 2sc in first sc, sc in next 4 sc around (36 sc)

rd7 & 8: sc in each sc around (36 sc)

rd9: 2sc in first sc, sc in next 5 sc around (42 sc)

rd10-15: sc in each sc around (42 sc)

Switch to color #2

rd16-23: sc in each sc around (42 sc)

Switch to color #3

rd24-40: sc in each sc around (42 sc)

rd41: sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc around (36 sc)

rd42: sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc around (30 sc)

rd43: sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc around (24 sc)

rd44: sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc around (18 sc)

rd45: sc2tog, sc in next sc around (12 sc)

rd46: sc2tog around (6 sc)

fasten off, sew closed, leave super extra long tail for sewing.

Finishing:

1. Stuff the beak and sew onto the front of the body.  I placed mine inbetween the first two colors, also stuff the body and sew closed.

2. I took half of a square of beige felt (from walmart) and folded it in half.  I then cut out the foot shape, and about 2-3 inches of leg.  Just look at the photo, and copy that shape.

3. I took embroidery floss and a needle and sewed the legs onto the bottom of the bird.

4. I left a super long tail when i closed him up, threaded a yarn needle onto it, and ran that up through his body and out of the side of his beak.  Then i believe i did a backstitch? around the beak to form the mouth. You can also do the regular non-lazy version, where you would actually embroider the mouth onto the beak before you stuff and sew it on!

4. Glue on the large sized google eyes using fabric glue, or cut some out of felt and sew them on.  Whatever eyes you like to the best is cool.

5. I believe thats it!  Enjoy the bird!

Nathalie
