I just bought Amy Butler's "In Stitches" and I love it! The Clutch Handbag is the first project I've made from it. It was really easy to follow, this is the first time I've made a bag from a pattern and it worked great. I really recommend this book. Here are the pictures!



The original pattern didn't have a strap (hence the title "clutch"), but I added one because it's more practical for me. It closes with velcro. This is also the first time I've used batting in a bag instead of interfacing, I like how it adds some substance.



Here's a closer view of the paisley fabric. I've had this fabric since summer and have been waiting for the perfect pattern for it. I think this project turned out well. Both the paisley and the lining are from the Chocolate Lollipop collection, I got them on fabric.com.



This is the interior, I love this lining fabric! There's a divider panel in the middle lined with extra-heavy interfacing, which is nice so I can keep my keys separate so they're easy to grab. It bends a little in the middle, I think because the batting thickened up the bag so much. It's very spacious inside though, it's my new favorite purse!

your bag looks great!! i have the book as well.. and i'm making the same clutch for my friend .. in a pink brocade fabric .. i hope it turns out as nice as yours!

Thank you for your compliments! I will definitely be making more of this same pattern, maybe with detachable handles so it's still a clutch. I never realized batting could be so awesome to stiffen up a bag!

Thank you! I'm actually still using this purse since it's the perfect size, usually I end up putting my current purse away after I make a new one.

I know what you mean, this is the only craft book I own. I don't like to buy if I don't think I'll make at least the majority of the projects or it won't be worth it, but this one had so many great projects I just had to get it! I'm almost finished with the checkbook clutch already!

Oh I am loving that bag!!  I've been sewing all day and was about to clean up, but now I want to make a new purse!  I hope you enjoy it - it looks really great.
