I like to let at least 2/3 of the lights in my house burn out before I replace them, and then I usually throw them all away. This time I decided to fool around with them, and I'm glad I did.


Kind of cheesy, maybe, but it makes me happy. And yes, that is a sprig of parsley. Don't laugh.

First, pry off the little copper disc on the bottom with a knife.


I use a fork tine or a wire hanger to break that little round of purple glass, and dump that in the trash.
Holding the bulb by the metal part,


hit the screwdriver gently with a hammer to break the glass inside.

Use some needle nosed pliers to remove the wires & glass tube inside.

Rinse out the white powder. If there's any black stuff on the glass, use a q-tip to clean it off.
