My DF had found this old sweater while he was cleaning out the attic, and he was going to throw it out, but I told him I'd find a use for it.

It's got a big hole in the collar, and it's missing all the buttons. Ugly, right?

It's a 20 year old Land's End men's wool sweater..... and I frogged it.

Here it is disassembled.... left to right, front right panel, left sleeve, back panel frogging in progress, and on the bottom the front left panel. Since this sweater had been in the attic for so long, it was VERY dusty. It was unnerving to be frogging away and see little puffs of dust float away....

Here's a sleeve next to a frogged sleeve. There's actually more yarn there than it seems, because the yarn is very ... curly.

Here it is next to a ruler.
It took me a while, but I figured out what to make with the yarn.

Socks!
My DF has VERY large feet, in fact they're almost a perfect 12". I stole one of his socks for reference.

Since the wool yarn is over 20 years old, and I was making socks which will hopefully see a lot of use, I paired the wool with some cotton crochet thread. We'll see how that works.

Here's the second sock in progress, using the sleeve skein. When I finished the first sock, I had only used half of the back panel skien.
I adapted
this pattern to fit a longer foot, and I also increased the number of CO stitches. If you've read my other posts you know I'm not a big fan of DPNs.

These will be given to him for Christmas, I hope he doesn't read Craftster or I'm doomed.
Thanks for looking! Tell me what you think.
