I sat down to make myself a new winter hat, but somehow wound up with this teeny little beret. It's not going to be much help when I go out in the snow, but I think it's kind of funny.

Part of me wants to wear it out with a black dress and a long cigarette holder, but I don't think I could pull it off. Wink

Comments are always welcome.  Smiley

You could pull that off... add red lipstick and red chunk heels and go out!

I predicted that tiny top hats would be the trend for 2008...  maybe I was a bit off.

Lol. Thanks guys. Cheesy  Now I want lots more tiny hats.

awe, but so cute. Smiley How'd you make the stem thing?
I had left a really long tail when I started, so I made a slip knot as close to the hat as I could, then ch 3, sc in each of the 2nd and 3rd ch. Then I stitched it onto the hat in a couple of places to make it sturdier. I hadn't intended to put the stem on it before I started, so I'm sure there's an easier way. Actually, I think that's how/why it came about. I stopped after the 5th round to make the stem and decided to keep it that size. lol

Was that a gauge problem?

A few years ago, a friend of mine and I were making hats to donate to the NICU where my daughter had been as a preemie. We used the same pattern, and somehow my hat would have been tight on a ping pong ball, and hers was big enough to literally fit a preemie into, body and all! We ended up having to make some adjustments, and then our hats were fine.

I like your tiny beret. How does it stay on your head? I love things that are too big or too small, they just make me happy Smiley

I stitched a hairclip onto the bottom. When I made it, I started increasing like the crown of any old hat, but I stopped after like, 5 rounds and started decreasing.

Ebay, baby. That clock is my favorite thing in the world. lol  He has a beard pendulum too that's hidden by my giant head.  And yeah, I'm sure it's been done before.  Smiley

More of an attention span problem. Roll Eyes I stopped after the 5th round to make the stem, laid it down, and when I came back and picked it up again, I decided it looked cute, did a few decreasing rounds, and I patted myself on the back for making a hat.Wink It has a hairclip stitched onto the bottom to keep it on. My gauge issues always turn out too big. Same thing when I'm knitting. The first slouchy hat I crocheted was big enough that I could have worn it over a hockey helmet. (I'm still giggling at the image of a ping pong ball in a baby hat.Grin)

If you don't wanna wear it (which i hugely suggest like every one else you should) it can always go on a doll (with a long cigarette holder and red lips) or on a dog

Not only should you wear it... but you should give me the pattern!!! One of the clubs in my town has an indie/rock hipster night, and I would love to rock this with my pinstripe halter, black jeans, and blood drenched/zombie chuck taylors.

This is a great post!  I love your hat and I agree that you should really wear this hat and don't think of it as a mistake because it sure doesn't look like one.

Thanks, guys. I've actually made another one, black with cherries appliqued on it. I still haven't worn it out. I've really only been to school and the grocery store, though. Roll Eyes

I really don't have a pattern, but you could use the first few rounds of almost any top-down hat pattern. Just do some increasing rounds until it's as big as you want it, then do a couple of decreasing rounds for the bottom side. See my post on pg. 2 for the stem. Smiley
