so i planned this project for our high school's spirit week.. The class of 2008 decided on a 60's theme, so i found this VW Bug on craigslist for.. thats right.... ONLY $20.00!!! (.. well, it's just a smashed up shell..but its still awesome!!).  After much body work and a killer paint job (if i do say so myself), the car turned into this MASTERPIECE! oh i am so very proud!! Cheesy

from a dull car...

...to CAR-TASTIC! Tongue

some more views...

p.s: i worked so hard on this, and this is my first post ever, so any feedback you have would be great!! Thanks everybody!

haha nah.. it doesn't drive; there's no transmission or engine Sad its still pretty sweet though.

I kinda comissioned my technologically-advanced friend to rig up a lighting system, so the headlight (singluar) and tail lights light up!  its gorgeous.. im thinking of stringing christmas lights on it and leaving it in my driveway for the holidays!

That was an amazing find, and a beautiful (and time consuming) paint job!  Wow, 20$, and a ton of work on your part.... Really Great!

That car deserves to have a long life, filled with fun!  Maybe when you are done you you should donate it to a city park or something.  I remember there was an old fire engine at my old park that we could sit in and 'drive'.

OMG ... I so want this. My husband is cringing as he anticipates the day my Scion is paid off, because one of two things is probably going to happen: Either A.) I'm going to trade it for a '65 Karmann Ghia, or B.) I'm going to give it a Janis Joplin paint job. After looking at this, I'm definitely leaning toward the latter.

What are you going to do w/ the car? I'm so curious. Will you put an engine in it? Donate it as some one suggested earlier?

that for all the great feedback everybody!

To answer a few questions... i would LOVE to get it up and running one day, but im not sure i have the resources.  For now, i think I'm going to donate the car to our school for it's sculpture garden.  (As pres. of the national art honor society, i get to decide what goes on display Wink ).  If that falls through, i know plenty of public gardens that would love to keep the car.  if its on display in the public, i feel like its going to good use instead of a becoming a waste.

secondly, i used acrylic paint- a LOT of it.  At first, i used house paint mixed with different tints, but it was way too runny and transparent.  I cleaned the car well and just painted right onto it.  Finally, i sealed it with this car spray my dad had in the garage.

p.s: the car survived it's first snowfall today! it was so gorgeous under the blanket of white...

Hooray for senior class projects! And the price tag is almost as unbelievable as the paint job! That thing is all kinds of awesome.

Congrats on your graduation, too! ^_^

This belongs in the American Visionary Arts Museum's Art Cars Parade. http://www.tackytreasures.com/tackyhtml/artcars.html
I saw this when I lived in B'more in 2003. From the site, I am not sure if it is still going (the latest photos are from 2005.) Anyhow, you did a great job and I hope that your creation finds an apt home.

Hey! We did that for our senior parade too! Only we painted my art teacher's little Ford Taurus, haha... suffice it to say we used washable paint. I was president of my National Art Honor Society chapter, too, got to wear that multicolored cord at graduation. YAY for art nerds!!

Man you really brought this challenge to a new level. I cant wait to see who wins!

Such a suitable paintjob for a vw of course.

You should make pedal powered. Then it would be really eco friendly. Then you have to take it to "Burning Man"! It looks awesome Grin!
