My son and I made this as a decoration for his room- which has a Medieval/LOTR/dragons/Harry Potter type decor. We want to make some safe yet wicked looking stuff for decorations, swords, a battle axe, a shield maybe. This is our first attempt. It was originally supposed to be a flail- that's the dealie with a chain attaching the skiped ball to the stick.  But we couldn't find the proper size chain so... anyway, it has several issues I don't like- I know the ball is too large, and I really wanted strips of leather to wrap the handle with, and maybe some metal embossed with celtic knots- but, you have to go out of town to find any of those things so we had to make do with some brown bias tape I had.

So, it didn't come out exactly as planned, but we had fun making it. It's a styofoam ball with those conical electrical tie things attached and covered with papier mache. note the "blood" spatter on the spikes. Thanks fer lookin!

Your kid is awesome!  I would love to see what the room looks like when it's all finished, because that is the coolest themed bedroom idea ever.
And, I agree with the ren fest comment from the person above- they are so much fun.  He'd really get a kick out of them, I think.

I have taken him to the Gulf Wars, which is an SCA event held nearby every year. It's not a true Ren Faire, though, but he did enjoy it a lot the 3 times we went.

As for his room, I will definitely put pics up of it eventually. That was the first weapon thing we made. We'll begin some more soon. Thanks for the comments yall! These are fun to make with a kid, and it gets him a basis on stage props, which I always wished I had done as a career instead of dabbling.

It's the PERFECT size... if you're a very strong dwarf Smiley

Awesome idea for decorations! I have a feeling the boy and I are going to be thinking about similar things if we share a house. I would love to see the completed room sometime, sounds amazing.
