My neice mentioned a 'sewing kit' on her wishlist - she is 6.

Can you help me put some ideas together?

I was thinking of some felt kits - precutting the pieces?
Some colored thread?
Some needles?
A needlebook?

I would like everything to be for hand sewing because I know my sister doesn't own a machine Smiley

Ideas please!!  Also, if you have a link to share to some projects I'd appreciate it!

I have two 7 year old sisters that I wanted to do the same thing. Felt is a great idea. You could do small squares and she could make a patchwork blanket. She could even use a yarn and the bigger needles (yarn needle ? tapestry needle?) to stitch it up. I'm going to make a sewing box (old basket with a lid lined with fabrics, added pockets, and elastics for things like scissors) and as they get older and more into it they have a place to put supplies and always think of me. That way it grows with them.

All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

I think some felt projects would be perfect. It's inexpencive and doesn't ravel. Supplies in a sewing box with a project ready to go is a great 6yr old gift. Will you be including lessons?
This (sorry it's not a link) should take you to a felt doll project at Family Fun. (great place for kid's projects)

A pillowcase skirt kit might be another idea. Or felt pillows or ornaments (with buttons 'cause buttons are fun!)
I'm so excited for your gift!!
