Thanks for Crafts Challenge #23 - Super Ugly to Super Awesome!

The purchased item for $4.27.....pink satin bow with seashells

Stained the shade

Used cardboard boxes as building material

Traced base of lamp on to cardboard

Drafted pattern for eight flaps with 3 holes to attach side panels

Drew out side panels, thinking about size of boxes I was using and desired diameter of base of the lamp. I'm going for a fat gourd shape

Traced the pattern cardboard and cut and punched out 8 side panels

Made a few detours here, ended with a metallic gold base coat with dark brown dry brushed second coat for funky wood/metal texture

Attached the side panels to the base with these brass scrapbooking clips

Laced up the 7 seams with cotton cord

Cut a hole for the cord, also hot glued the base of the lamp to the inside of the cardboard bottom panel, laced up last seam

Measured the distance between holes of top of lamp, made the pattern, painted the same as the other panels, very carefully glued top on one hole at a time

Detail of base

And the Final Cool Tribal Meditation lamp

This is, in fact, super awesome. I'm hoping that I can follow your instructions and make one for myself, if you don't mind?
