Honestly, it really wasn't that bad. 

I used US 6  needles and Lana Grossa Bingo.  I knit it on the sly in about 3 days, and it took about 1 and a half balls total. 

And at least with ribbing, once you get into the flow you don't really have to pay it a lot of attention.

I've made probably 7 or 8 of these for friends, and it's all because of your patch!  It was too cute for me to pass up and I'm still getting requests for it.  I make the hat a little different each time so everyone's is unique, like in the movie, and used acrylic paints on the felt instead of embroidery.  Thanks for making something so awesomely rad!  Yours looks so good on you

oh I love it! and the movie lol. I made my ex the red beanie with the black square with the green,yellow and red button. but i LOVE THIS HAT TOO!! I especially love the little patch,  great detail and creativity =)
